What Are Wisdom Teeth?
Wisdom teeth are the third set of molars at the back of your mouth, usually appearing between ages 17 and 25. They were useful for our ancestors to chew tough foods, but today they’re often unnecessary and can cause problems if there isn’t enough space for them to grow properly.
What Are Impacted Wisdom Teeth?
Impacted wisdom teeth are wisdom teeth that don’t fully emerge through the gums or grow in at an angle because there isn’t enough space in the mouth. This can cause pain, swelling, infection, or damage to nearby teeth, and in some cases, they can form cysts or cause gum problems. Dentists often recommend removing impacted wisdom teeth to prevent these issues and maintain oral health.

Do Wisdom Teeth Have to Be Removed?
Not always. Wisdom teeth only need to be removed if they cause problems or are likely to cause issues in the future. If they grow in properly, have enough space, and don’t affect other teeth, they can often stay in the mouth safely. Dentists usually monitor wisdom teeth with regular check-ups and X-rays to decide whether removal is necessary, ensuring your oral health is protected without unnecessary procedures.
The Wisdom Teeth Removal Process
Wisdom teeth removal is a common dental procedure designed to safely extract teeth that may be causing pain, crowding, or other complications. Our team ensures the process is as comfortable and stress-free as possible.
Consultation and Assessment
Your dentist will examine your mouth and take X-rays to determine the position of your wisdom teeth and whether removal is necessary. This helps plan a safe and efficient extraction.
Anaesthesia and Preparation
The area is numbed with local anaesthetic, and sedation or general anaesthetic may be offered for added comfort. You’ll be fully relaxed and pain-free during the procedure.
Tooth Extraction
If the tooth is impacted or partially erupted, a small incision may be made in the gum, and the tooth may be divided into sections for easier removal. The extraction is performed carefully to minimise trauma to surrounding tissue.
Cleaning and Stitches
Once the tooth is removed, the site is cleaned, and stitches may be placed to aid healing. Your dentist will provide instructions for managing bleeding and swelling.
Recovery and Aftercare
After the procedure, you’ll receive guidance on pain management, oral hygiene, and dietary restrictions. Most patients recover within a few days, though full healing can take longer depending on the complexity of the extraction.
